Things to Do When Someone Wants to Invalidate Your Business Ideas
Things to Do When Someone Wants to Invalidate Your Business Ideas
As an employee of a company, you want to contribute to its growth. You might have ideas to boost the business and allow it to expand. Unfortunately, you won't always have everyone agree with you. Some colleagues might even try to invalidate your ideas. Before you get discouraged, here's what you must do.
Be open to criticism
Sure, you're confident about your business ideas, but you might not be correct. Someone else can have a better version. It doesn't mean your thoughts are getting invalidated. Perhaps, it's a way of helping you polish everything. Even entrepreneurs who managed to make it big also started where you are. Instead of shutting critics, they decided to listen.
Prepare to answer questions
When people try to stop your business ideas, be willing to converse with them. Try to answer their questions and move the discussion forward. You won't necessarily answer all the questions, but you can at least clarify your stance. It also shows you're confident about your business ideas since you're willing to discuss them.
Research before presenting anything
Again, you can't force everyone to agree with you. You must research first before presenting anything. Then, you can support your claims based on what you've studied. If given a chance to discuss your thoughts with other employees, don’t take it for granted. Your presentation will be more meaningful and exciting with slides and visual aids that you can present with a projector. Use a ceiling projector mount to keep your projector securely in place.
Don’t give up
Just because someone is questioning your ideas doesn't mean you're wrong. It also doesn't mean you must give up. There's a chance to polish your thoughts, and it's not the right time to pack up. You will be surprised to see that other colleagues agree with you. Sometimes, convincing others to believe in a radical idea takes time. You're introducing something new and can't expect people to listen immediately.
Talk to the person
While you try not to make it personal, it's possible to face someone who believes it is. The best thing to do is have a private conversation with that person. You can't let your rivalry get in the way. Besides, you're presenting these ideas not for personal glory. You're doing it because you believe it will boost the business.
Hopefully, you can convince people to listen to you the same way you listen to them. Remember that your business ideas will always start as a draft. You can improve them along the way, and polishing them is no harm. Changing a few things from the original thought doesn't diminish what you started. Don't focus on getting credit or receiving a reward for your ideas. Your goal is to help the company grow and bring everyone on the ride. Realise that your bosses will see your hard work. They will acknowledge your contribution to the team's success. If it happens, you will only feel motivated to do more.
